About Baytree CommunicationsBarbara Carver launched Baytree Communications in late 2006, building on her successful six-year business as a contract writer, editor and communications consultant. Before she began running her own shop, she was a communications coordinator for the provincial government and the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. She started her career as a journalist, beginning with the Cape Breton Post and CBC Radio and Television in Sydney, Nova Scotia. For seven years, she was a freelancer with CBC Radio in Ottawa, working in the newsroom and on current affairs programs. She moved to Victoria in 1993, and spent the three years writing editorials for the Times Colonist before making the switch to communications. Barbara has been described as having the "soar factor" - the ability to visualize a project and turn it into much more than the sum of its parts. She is known for the professionalism and enthusiasm she brings to a project, her lively writing style and her ability to create and deliver a final product. Since 2002, Barbara has been very involved with the Canadian Public Relations Society – Vancouver Island, the professional association for communications and public relations practitioners. For three years, she wrote and edited the society's newsletter. She spent three years as President of the society, one year as Past President, and is actively involved in the society's annual Beyond the Hype Professional Development conference. Baytree Communications collaborates with a select group of communications professionals, researchers, graphic designers and proofreaders to provide a wide range of service to clients.
